What happens after harvest?
Once the almonds have been swept into rows and collected by pick-up machines, they are deposited into a tipper truck for transport to a hulling & shelling plant where the soft outer hulls are removed. Then the hard shell is cracked open carefully and the kernel removed and graded according to size and quality.
They are transported to a processor for grading and sizing to allow further cleaning and packing for sale.
Almonds can be slivered, sliced, diced, split, left whole or ground (meal/flour) depending on application.
